One of my first articles written for i-Spirit delved into the concept of Synchronicity. One can choose to either believe in spiritual influences in our lives or not, and I am one who chooses to watch for and recognize when spirits have a hand in the day-to-day events of our lives.
I had recently written a newsletter for High On Spirit, my website, on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of D-Day, which talked of my father’s thoughts on that day as he crossed over to France (High On Spirit June Newsletter.) I was not consciously aware of this anniversary until I had come across a news item on the morning of June 6th and that started me thinking of my father on that day, 70 years ago, when he was a young man of 29. I quickly began to search out his memoirs and began to pen a newsletter in honour of his contributions to the life that I am blessed to live this day.
As I completed my article and readied myself to hit the “enter” key, I glanced at the time…. 11:11 a.m. Coincidence, hardly! How appropriate, I thought, and thanked my dad for ensuring that I was made aware of this synchronistic timing. I have written before of how my dad contributes to my articles and he had taken a “sabbatical” recently and it was nice to be made aware of his return to my writing.
The following day, as I was re-reading this newsletter posting, a song started to play from my I-Pad playlist; a song by Vera Lynn. My dad had mentioned the importance of this woman’s contribution to the soldier’s morale during the war and I had just finished reading the paragraph where he had talked of her soothing his soul during the rare, quiet evenings. What was this song? – “From The Time You Say Goodbye.”
Twice, within 24hrs. my dad had made his presence clearly known to me.
A friend asked me recently if I had visited the gravesite of my parents to say “hello.” “No,” I replied, “There is no need to go there to be with them – I talk with them all the time, they are with me always.” Our loved ones are always close and all we need do is to allow ourselves to become aware of the signs they send us – music, feathers, coins, birds, thoughts…. just some of the many ways in which they communicate. They, along with our Spirit Guides and Angels, create synchronistic events to catch our attention, to show us our way. We just need to be open to receive.
