New Zodiac sign dates sparks controversy

If for years you have been religiously reading your Horoscope every week, you might want to read this. According to Parke Kunkle, a board member of the Minnesota Planetarium Society, Zodiac sign dates have changed. Which means that you may have read for all this time a Horoscope that wasn’t yours. After the break more details about the controversy and the “possible” new Zodiac sign dates.

Parke Kunkle has dropped a bombshell among the Astronomy community. According to Parke Kunkle the moon’s gravitational pull has slowly moved the Earth in its axis, creating about a one-month bump in the stars alignment that results to new Zodiac sign dates. That being said, it means that some people would have been born in different astrological signs.  For instance I was born March 26 so I am an Aries but according to the new Zodiac sign dates I am a Pisces.

Here are the new Zodiac sign dates according to Parke Kunkle:

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11
Pisces: March 11-April 18
Aries: April 18-May 13
Taurus: May 13-June 21
Gemini: June 21-July 20
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23-Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20

In Addition there is and always been a 13 signs called Ophiuchus that belongs to people who are born between Nov 29 to Dec 17. The Babylonians discarded the 13th sign to make for an even 12 signs two millennia ago.

Here are the dates that we have been using to choose our signs since 2000 years ago:

Aries: March 21 – April 19
Taurus: April 20 – May 20
Gemini: May 21 – June 20
Cancer: June 21 – July 22
Leo: July 23 – August 22
Virgo: August 23 – September 22
Libra: September 23 – October 22
Scorpio: October 23 – November 21
Sagittarius: November 22 – December 21
Capricorn: December 22 – January 19
Aquarius: January 20 – February 18
Pisces: February 19 – March 20

Needless to say that the new Zodiac sign dates statement by Parke Kunkle fused quite a few people in the Astronomy community and here is what some have to say:

“The stars are markers that drift but our main points of reference are not directly the stars” ;“The new location of the earth does not matter”; “Kunkle is describing what is called the sidereal zodiac: the backdrop of the stars. It’s not the zodiac used by most Western astrologers; it’s the one used by Vedic astrologers, the kind in India, and a few in our part of the world. Here in the West, we use a zodiac that follows the seasons. It’s called the tropical zodiac. It’s based on the position of the Sun’s rays and the tropics — that’s why it’s called tropical.” Etc.

This is the way I see it. I think that Astrology is an ancient system that was and still used as a helpful tool for divine seekers but in my point of view it has never been as accurate as a spiritual reading by mediums, at least it has never been proved to me yet. I have always been fascinated by our Stars and the Universe but in my point of view the horoscopes sounds more like a “fortune teller” to me. I personally never cared about reading my Horoscope and if my sign changed then it really does not matter to me. If you have a tattoo of a scorpion and by reading this article you learnt that it might be possible that you are not a scorpion, then it should not matter to you either :).
